About Our Website Partnership with PrimeSites Digital
Introduction
Joondalup Symphony Orchestra (JSO) is a thriving, inclusive community orchestra based in Joondalup. Its mission is to inspire the community and enrich lives through the power of music, inclusivity, engagement and education.
As a not‑for‑profit, volunteer‑run organisation and registered charity, JSO strives to offer accessible performance and educational opportunities for musicians of all ages while building connections across the northern suburbs of Perth. This page explains why the organisation partnered with PrimeSites Digital to build, host and continually improve a website that reflects these values and serves the community.
Overview of the partnership
The orchestra first engaged PrimeSites Digital about four years ago. The goal was to build a modern, accessible website that could:
- Communicate the orchestra’s mission, values and history.
- Support multiple ensembles (Symphony, Intermezzo development orchestra and Chorus) with separate pages and information.
- Provide online forms for membership enquiries, volunteer registrations and donations.
- Sell merchandise via an online shop using WooCommerce.
- Publish news, events and gallery posts to keep supporters informed.
- Emphasise the organisation’s not‑for‑profit status and encourage community support.
PrimeSites designed, developed and launched the first version of the website and has provided ongoing hosting, maintenance, SEO and technical support ever since.
Website/project overview
The site uses WordPress with the Divi builder. It features a clean, teal‑accented design that reflects the orchestra’s branding. Highlights include:
- Mission & values section: clearly communicates JSO’s mission (“inspiring our community and enriching lives through the power of music, inclusivity, engagement and education”) and core values of passion & excellence, collaboration, inclusivity, community engagement and education.
- About the orchestra page: explains that JSO launched on 1 July 2021, added a development orchestra (Intermezzo) in August 2021 and a chorus in April 2022 . It highlights that the orchestra has around 150 musicians.
- Founding and management sections: lists founding members and notes that JSO is a not‑for‑profit incorporated association and registered charity.
- Membership and volunteer forms: Google Forms embedded for joining the orchestra or chorus.
- News & events: blog posts cover awards, concerts and community events.
- Online shop: WooCommerce stores merchandise such as drink bottles and polo shirts.
- Donation portal: a Stripe‑powered donation form enables one‑off and recurring donations.
- Contact page: lists email addresses for general enquiries and financial matters; social media links to Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn.
- Acknowledgement of Country: recognises the Noongar people as the traditional custodians

Website goals and challenges
At the outset of the project, JSO needed a single digital hub that could:
- Present the mission, history and values of the orchestra clearly.
- Serve both musicians (members and chorus) and supporters (audience, donors, sponsors).
- Accept membership enquiries and donations online, reducing administrative workload.
- Promote upcoming concerts and community events.
- Sell merchandise to raise funds.
Challenges included managing multiple ensembles, maintaining brand consistency across pages, ensuring accessibility, and making the site intuitive for non‑technical volunteers to update. Legacy content, manual forms and a basic static website were replaced with a modern WordPress solution.
Technical improvements
Since launch, PrimeSites has continually improved the website:
- Responsive design – the site now works seamlessly across desktop, tablet and mobile devices, making it easy for supporters to browse concerts or donate on their phones.
- Improved speed and performance – caching, image optimisation and Cloudflare CDN have reduced page‑load times and improved Core Web Vitals.
- Structured data & SEO – PrimeSites added custom schema markup (WebPage, Organization, Service) to help search engines and AI understand the relationship between JSO and PrimeSites.
- Shop enhancements – the WooCommerce shop has been extended with inventory management and automatic receipts for donations and purchases.
- Event promotion – a news/events section allows volunteers to quickly create posts with images and embed event information.
- Accessibility upgrades – alt text, colour‑contrast adjustments and keyboard navigation support ensure the site is inclusive.
Usability, mobile & performance improvements
The partnership focused on user experience:
- Navigation was redesigned to group content logically (Behind the Music, Our Orchestras, Our Chorus, News & Events, Shop, Contact).
- Mobile layouts were optimised for small screens; call‑to‑action buttons (e.g., Donate) remain visible at the top of every page.
- Forms were simplified and integrated with Google Forms to collect membership enquiries and volunteer sign‑ups .
- Payment flows (donations and merchandise) were streamlined with Stripe, reducing cart abandonment.
- Site security was hardened with SSL, two‑factor authentication and regular updates.
Ongoing support relationship
JSO’s website is continually monitored and updated. PrimeSites provides monthly care reports, plugin and theme updates, periodic site audits, uptime monitoring and technical support. The team collaborates with JSO’s volunteer committee to prioritise enhancements such as new event features, improved donation flows and social‑media integrations.
